Roomba is a brand name that is synonymous to robot vacuums. It is iRobot’s main product line, but the company also offers the Braava. The Braava family mops your floors instead of vacuuming it to keep it clean.
The Braava Jet 240 and the Braava 380t are two models that are currently available from the iRobot site. What are the features that are different between the two and which one is better?

Braava Jet 240
If you want your bathrooms and kitchen to be extra clean, then get the Braava Jet 240. It is designed to get into tight spaces with dimensions of 6.7 by 7.0 by 3.3 inches, which makes it around half the size of an iRobot Roomba. These measurements mean that the iRobot Braava Jet 240 can quickly get into tight spaces around the toilet or in any nook in your kitchen.
What’s more, the Braava Jet 240 only weighs 2.7 pounds, making it very portable.
The Braava Jet 240 has a systematic cleaning pattern that helps ensure that it does not miss any spot. This robot mop has a range of sensors that allow it to avoid bumping into walls and other obstacles, as well as falling down steep drops. It will also find its way back to the charging dock when it’s done its job.

Easy cleaning
The Braava Jet 240 only needs a cleaning pad. Once you put that in and press start, the robotic mop will begin doing its job. You can direct it to where it goes with the virtual wall that comes free with your purchase.
After the robot finishes its job, you can eject the cleaning pad with just one button push. You do not have to hold it and get your hands dirty in the process.
This robot mop uses a strong and targeted spray that can loosen up dirt and dust. The robot will avoid spraying your furniture, walls, and carpets to avoid damaging these. You can use it to Braava mop and sweep hard floors.
Ratings and reviews
The Braava Jet 240 cleaning solution gets high ratings from reviewers. For instance, PCMag gives it a rating of 4.0 out of 5.0, saying that the multiple cleaning modes make this robot a versatile floor cleaner. It is also a small and quiet device that is quite affordable. However, they also say that it cannot clean tough stains on its own. They also do not like the limited coverage and buying additional cleaning pads can increase the cost of owning this robot.
Verified buyers on Amazon give this robot mop an average rating of 3.8 out of 5.0 stars, with more than 1,270 reviewers leaving their opinions. Around two in every three reviewers gave the Jet 240 a score of 4.0 stars or higher.
People love how the Braava 240 mopping robot is able to keep their floors clean, without them having to do anything. They just set it up, and it goes to work. Others like how quiet it is and how it moves like one of their pets. Others recommend this for light to medium cleaning. However, some reviewers warn potential buyers that they are better off using an old mop.
Braava 380t
The Braava 380t works with a navigation cube that scans your floors and creates a virtual map, letting the robot know where it has cleaned and where it still needs to go. You can get up to 1,000 square feet of coverage.
This Braava mop has a long-lasting battery. On a single full charge, the iRobot Braava 380t can clean up to 350 square feet of space. It can also mop for 150 minutes or sweep for 210 minutes without needing a recharge.
It is very easy to clean with the Braava 380t, all you need to do is to attach a cleaning cloth and then press SWEEP or MOP to start cleaning. It also works with an assortment of cleaning cloths, both coming from iRobot and third-party products.
Ratings and reviews
On Amazon, the Braava 380t gets an average rating of 3.7 stars out of 5.0 with more than 2,000 reviewers leaving their opinions. People like how the Braava 380t can get under furniture to clean there. They also appreciate how silent it gets when it works, and recommends that you run it while you are sleeping. However, some reviewers complain that the Braava 380t does not clean as humans can with a traditional mop.
PCMag gives it a rating of 3.5 stars out of 5.0. They note that the robot does a good job sweeping and mopping, and can cover a large area with no problems. It also works silently. However, they do not like the fact that it does not clean tough stains as well as they want and you will still need to babysit to get it out of some jams. There are times when the robot has problems communicating with the cube.
CNET gives it a lower rating of 6.8 stars out of 10.0, giving it a 7.0 for performance, a 6.0 for usability and features, and an 8.0 for the design. CNET recommends using this for light cleaning. However, they do not like the fact that you cannot schedule a cleaning with the Braava 380t.
Comparing the Braava 380t and the Braava Jet 240
How does the Braava 380 and the Jet 240 compare with each other?
Pricing
The iRobot Braava Jet 240 currently sells for a decent price (Check out the latest rates here!), while the Braava 380t (Check out the lates rates here!) is a bit more expensive. Is that significant price difference justified by the features? Or is the more affordable Jet 240, the better Braava?
Dimension and design
The most apparent difference between these two robot mops is the design and measurements. The Braava 380t measures 9.4 x 8.62 x 3.1 inches, making it bigger and shorter than the Braava Jet 240, which measures 6.7 x 7.0 x 3.3 inches. The Braava 380t is also heavier than the Jet 240.
Style-wise, the Jet 240 Braava robot is white with a sky blue carrying handle. Meanwhile, the Braava 380t cleaning solution has an all-black styling. When it comes to design, the Braava Jet 240 wins because it is able to get into smaller spaces to clean there Plus, being lighter makes it more portable. However, the Braava 380t is better for big spaces such as the living room or bedroom. With one pass, it can cover more area.
Both models have onboard controls. The Braava Jet 240 has one big CLEAN button, similar to Roombas. The 380t, however, has three buttons that allow you to turn the robot on, or choose between dry sweeping or damp mopping robot options.
Cleaning action
The Braava 380t mops and sweeps your floors without pouring any water or floor cleaner on the floor. It relies on the cleaning pad that you use to make your floors spotless. The water tank will dispense just enough water onto the mopping pad to keep it damp.
When it is dry mopping, the 380t moves in straight lines to clean. But when damp mopping, the robot moves back and forth to make sure that your floors are scrubbed thoroughly.
The Braava 240 mopping robot, on the other hand, has three different cleaning modes: dry sweep, damp mop, and wet mop. The dry sweep and damp cleaning mode options make it work like the Braava 380t, but the wet mop is entirely different.
In wet mop mode, the robot will spray water onto your floor to clean it more thoroughly. Take note that each cleaning mode has a different pad, which already has detergent in it.
For both models, you only need to attach the cleaning cloth and then press a button for the robot to start working.
Battery
Both models do not have a charging dock allowing it to recharge the battery automatically when it runs low. But you charge the Braava 380t using the Turbo Charge Cradle. You plug the cradle into a socket and then put the whole robot upsidedown on it to recharge.
With the Braava Jet 240, you will need to take out the battery and insert it into the charger.
The lithium-ion battery on the Jet 240 delivers up to 180 minutes of cleaning. Meanwhile, the iRobot 380t has a nickel metal hydride battery that gives you up to 150 minutes. However, the Braava 380t because of its wider cleaning path can easily clean 350 square feet when damp mopping and up to 1,000 square feet with dry mopping. The Jet 240 can only polish an area of up to 200 square feet.
Who wins? The longer running time you get from the lithium-ion battery of the Jet 240 trumps the inferior battery you find on the 380t. However, not having to take out the battery on the 380t makes it more convenient to charge. Plus the 380t can cover a much bigger area than the Jet 240 even with its shorter running time.
Navigation
The Braava 380t has the navigation cube that helps it know where it is going. This Cube has the navigational capability you see on the iRobot Roomba Series 900 models. You can put the Cube anywhere in the room that you want the 380t to clean and it will transmit a signal to the robot mop. It can also work with several cubes, allowing you to put one cube in every room that you want the 380t to clean.
Meanwhile, the Braava Jet 240 does not use cube navigation. It relies on sensors and software to find the dirtiest areas of your floors and clean there.
Cleaning pads
The Braava Jet 240 has more cleaning pads included in the package. You will be attaching these to the robot by sliding it into place. These cleaning pads are disposable, and you will need to buy replacement pads from iRobot or via online retailers. You can, however, purchase washable cleaning pads for the Jet 240.
On the other hand, the 380t Braava Robot has microfiber cloth pads that you attach to the cleaning head. These microfiber cloth pads are machine washable and reusable.
What’s in the box
The Braava 380t comes with a 2,000 mAh NiMH rechargeable battery, the NorthStar navigation cube, two C batteries to power the cube, a microfiber mopping cloth, a microfiber damp mopping cloth, a multipurpose cleaning pad, a Pro-Clean reservoir pad, and one turbo charge cradle.
Meanwhile, the Braava Jet 240 comes with a lithium-ion battery, the charger, a wet mopping pad, two damp sweeping pads, and two dry sweeping pads.
Other factors
Both models work very quietly, and they both require minimal maintenance. They also have a one-year limited warranty for the device. However, the 380t has a one-year warranty for the battery while the Jet 240 only has a warranty for six months.

Should You Buy a Braava Jet 240 or a Braava 380t?
Here’s the thing. If you have a Roomba or other robot vacuum options, then you might be disappointed with a Braava. There are merely a lot of features that we take for granted with even the most basic robotic vacuum features that the Braava does not have. For instance, unlike a robotic vacuum, it does not find its way back to its charger when the battery runs low. There is also no way to schedule cleaning runs, and you would need to be there to start the robot. Most importantly, the Braava models do not clean as well as robot vacuums.
There are still instances when you will need a Braava 380t or a Braava Jet 240. For example, if you have pets that like to drag in mud everytime, they go inside the house. While robot vacuums can sweep dust and dirt and then keeps them inside a dust bin, these devices cannot mop your floors.
On paper, the Braava 380t has better specs, cube navigation, and longer runtimes. However, users rate the Braava Jet 240 higher. We recommend the Brava 380t for those with bigger homes and do not mind paying the additional money. For those who like to have a budget-friendly device that delivers a somewhat better clean, then go for the Braava Jet 240. For those who want more spotless floors and do not need mopping, get a robot vacuum.
