Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro Review: Is it Worth the Buy?

Last updated: January 11, 2022 by Patrick Sinclair Leave a Comment

With all the robot vacuums coming out now, it would seem that the competition has become fiercer and fiercer, and yet new technologies have been far and few in between. It has been some time since we have seen an extraordinary new feature introduced in robot vacuums.

Indeed, the last two great technologies are visual laser mapping and Wi-Fi connectivity, both of which are included in iRobot’s flagship model, the Roomba 980.

This is the reason why newer robot vacuums compete on a combination of set features and price. Right now, robot vacuums are trying to win over new buyers by having the most number of awesome features while keeping the price as low as they can.

Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro is one of these robot vacuums. Is it worth the buy?

Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro: Features

  • V-shaped main brush. The Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro uses a v-shaped main brush that would enable it to lift more dust and dirt, even on carpeted areas.
  • Mop and vacuum function. You can both vacuum and mop with the Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro. This allows the robot vacuum cleaner to not only sweep dust, dirt and debris, but also gives your floors a deeper clean with the optional mop, leaving no spots on the floor.
  • Big dustbin. The Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro has a large dustbin. It can accommodate 0.5 liters of dust and debris. This means you would need to empty the dustbin less frequently.
  • Various cleaning modes. The Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro has several cleaning modes. The auto mode is for the regular cleaning, while the edge mode would send the robot vacuum to concentrate on the edges of your walls. There’s the spot cleaning for cleaning dirtier spots, and there’s also the intensive mode for floors that need extra thorough cleaning.
  • Works with the Ecovacs mobile app. The Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro connects to your Wi-Fi, allowing you to control the robot with your smartphone or tablet. You can use the mobile app to set up cleaning schedules, choose the appropriate cleaning modes, and even check the cleaning status of the Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro. Furthermore, you can start cleaning even when you are not home.
  • Amazon Alexa-compatible. You can use voice commands to operate your Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro. If you are home, there is no need to get your smartphone out of your pocket; just tell Alexa you want the robot vacuum to start cleaning!
  • Sensor-based navigation. The Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro uses sensors to navigate, avoiding obstacles and keeping it safe from steep drops.

Other features you should know

The Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro has a battery that gives you around 110 minutes of operation on a single charge. It also uses high-efficiency filters that keep the air clean by trapping the dirt and dust into the bin. This robot vacuum also uses two side brushes.

Design and dimensions

The Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro has a round shape, with a diameter of 13.9 inches. The gray and black robot vacuum has a height of 3.3 inches.

What you would like about the Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro

The Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro is very quiet when it works. It has a noise level rating of 57 decibels, which makes it quieter than a normal conversation inside a restaurant. The Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro is a great robot vacuum and it delivers a very efficient cleaning for your floors. It is hard to believe that you can buy from Amazon. With the three-stage cleaning, you will find your floors extra clean. Check out the latest rates here!

What could be better

The Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro can find its way back to the charging dock, but it does not continue cleaning after it charges. Also, the Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro uses a nickel metal hydride battery. In this age where most notable robot vacuums use lithium ion, this is quite disappointing. You also cannot use this robot vacuum on high-pile carpets.

At its price, you can expect that there would be some features missing from the Deebot M80. For one, it can only find its way back to the charging dock when battery runs low. It does not continue cleaning when charging is done. It does not have voice report, so if there are problems that you need to troubleshoot, you would need to rely on error codes or what’s stated on the mobile app. It also cannot identify carpets, which should allow it to switch to a stronger suction when it goes over carpeted floors. Moreover, it does not offer virtual boundaries and e-maps.

Alternatives to the Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro

Only a year ago, the Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro would have stood out with its Wi-Fi connectivity and relatively budget-friendly price tag. Back then, being able to control your robot vacuum with a mobile app or via voice command with Alexa was a feature carried only by robot vacuums. But now, there are already several affordable Wi-Fi connected robots you can buy.

Take for example the Eufy Robovac 11c, which has a powerful vacuum suction, self-charging features, and a high performance filter. You can set a weekly schedule, allowing it to clean on its own. The Eufy Robovac 11c is Wi-Fi connected and you can use Amazon Alexa to operate it. It also has a lithium ion battery that allows it to clean for up to 1.5 hours. Eufy Robovac 11c is one of the most affordable Wi-Fi connected robot vacuums around.

Ecovacs is also coming out with the Deebot 900, which promises a better clean for your floors. This Deebot will have mapping technology, which would allow it to map out your floors, and it will also give you more features on the mobile app. It will also be Wi-Fi connected, allowing you to use voice control with Alexa and Google Assistant, or even use your mobile phone to control the robot vacuum. Unlike the Deebot M80 Pro, it can continue cleaning after recharging and it will use voice report to tell you its status or if there is something wrong. In short, it will offer a lot of the things missing from the Deebot M80 Pro. The only thing is that it is about twice the price tag of the Deebot M80.

Neato Botvac D3 White Connected Laser Guided Robot Vacuum, Works with Smartphones, Alexa,...

Neato has the Botvac D3 Connected, is available on Amazon. When it first came out, the Neato Botvac D3 Connected was praised for having the same cleaning power as Neato’s erstwhile robot vacuum, the Botvac Connected, at half the price. Of course there are some tradeoffs. The Neato Botvac D3 Connected did not do as well when it comes to pet hair, and it has a shorter battery life. It was also very lean when it comes to features. But the Botvac D3 connects to your Wi-Fi networks, charges on its own, and works with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT recipes. You get 60 minutes of runtime, auto resume, cleaning history, and coverage maps. These are the features you do not necessarily find on other budget robot vacuums we have here, but the Neato Botvac D3 Connected has all of them.

Even Roomba has its own entry into the affordable, Wi-Fi connected robot vacuum space: the Roomba 690. It has the cleaning and navigation technology you see on the Series 600 Roombas, but with the remote control feature and Wi-Fi connectivity. You can also use Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to start, stop, and pause the cleaning without having to fish out your smartphone. The Roomba 690 has a three-stage cleaning system that makes use of a powerful suction power, a main brush, and a side brush to deliver a very efficient clean.

Final recommendations

It used to be that when you hear about an affordable vacuum, you would expect to see a poorly made device that leaves more dust and debris than it picks up. Not with the Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro. Not only is this robot vacuum equipped with great vacuum power, it also has two side brushes and a main brush to help clean your bare and low file carpeted floors thoroughly. It has close to two hours of operation even if it uses a nickel metal hydride battery. It also uses a big 0.5 liter dust bin, and a high efficiency filter, similar to what you would find on other more expensive robot vacuums such as the Roomba 900 series.

The Deebot M80 Pro is also Wi-Fi connected, but it does not stop at just allowing you to control your robot vacuum from your mobile device. It also allows you to control the robot manually, schedule your robot’s cleaning times, and control your robot from anywhere in the world.

Even among the budget robot vacuums, the Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro is one of the most inexpensive, yet as you can see, it has one of the most comprehensive features set.

If you are looking for a Wi-Fi connected robot vacuum that also has a great set of features, then you should get the Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro. But if you want a better list of features, you can spring more money for the Botvac D3 or the Deebot 900.
