Is This Fitness Tracker for You? The Full Skulpt Aim Review

Last updated: December 17, 2021 by Patrick Sinclair Leave a Comment

Fitness and activity trackers help keep you fit by tracking your exercise, sleep, and stress level.  Fitness trackers can only prod you to exercise, but they don’t tell you whether you should be doing more to become fitter or more athletic.

These devices are not equipped to tell you exactly how fit you are.  The Skulpt Aim, however, is different because it can.  It measures body fat and muscle quality to give you an idea of your fitness level.

Skulpt Aim uses electrical impedance myography, a technology that sends electrical pulses through your body.  These pulses penetrate your skin, muscles and fat in order to measure your muscle’s strength and the percentage of body fat you have.

In short, it gives you an idea of how strong you really are and how much of a particular area is fat and how much of it is muscle.

Not only that, the Skulpt Aim can also help you know if your workout is doing your body good before the muscles start to develop.  For everything that you do fitness-wise, you can see the results.

Design

Skulpt Aim

The Skulpt Aim measures 4.3 inches long, 2.6 inches wide and 0.79 inches thick, and it weighs 150.3 grams.  This means that it can cover an adequate area for accurate measurements, no matter what muscle group you are measuring.  It is also quite handy.

It has sensors made of ZAMAK 3, which is a kind of zinc alloy.  The sensors are protected by either gold or rhodium plating.

Taking measurements

To take measurements, you only need to wet the Skulpt Aim and place it on the body area that you want to measure.  The light ring will turn green if you have placed it right.  It will then turn purple when the measurements have
been taken.

There are 12 electrodes on the Skulpt Aim.  That is three times as many sensors as the ones you find on a traditional composition myography device.  Using electrical charges, these electrodes will be able to measure your fat and muscle quality at different depths.

The Skulpt Aim can give you readings in just a few seconds.   These readings will then be calculated using different algorithms.

Skulpt measures your body fat percentage and can even give a ocalized fat percentage for 24 local areas.  It can also tell you the quality of your muscles for 24 areas.  These include your left and right:

  • Abs
  • Biceps
  • Calves
  • Chest
  • Forearms
  • Glutes
  • Hamstrings
  • Lower back
  • Quads
  • Shoulders
  • Triceps
  • Upper back

In order to get a measurement of your muscle quality and total body fat percentage, you only have to measure three areas: quads, abs, and triceps.

The Skulpt mobile app

The Skulpt mobile app will show an in-depth analysis of your fat and muscles.  This will tell you which muscle groups you need to focus on more when working out.  This will also help you improve your strength, as well as avoid injuries.

Moreover, the mobile app will allow you to track your progress as time goes by and it will also show you an overview of your scores for each muscle group.  However, what makes the mobile app even more useful is the customized nutrition and fitness guidance.

More importantly, if you are just beginning to use your Skulpt Aim, you can find how-to videos on the mobile app.  These videos detail how to properly use it to take your measurements.

Long battery life

The Skulpt Aim is powered by a rechargeable nickel metal hydride battery.  The battery is rated to give you enough juice to last up to two weeks on a single charge.  When the battery runs low, you only need to place the Skulpt Aim on its charging cradle and charge it fully for 10 hours.

What you would like about Skulpt Aim

It is very easy to improve your muscle quality by measuring with Skulpt Aim.  Depending on your score, you would know if a particular muscle group needs work or not.  Here’s what your score means:

0 – 20 Needs Work
20 – 40 Fair
40 – 60 Good
60 – 80 Fit
80 – 100 Athletic

You can see your muscle quality and fat percentage for all 24 body areas all in one screen.  The numbers are color-coded to help you know which areas need work (red), which are great (white), and which body areas are fit (blue
and green).

Skulpt is also backed by science.  Composition myography has long been used in determining muscle mass and body fat through a variety of frequencies.  Body fat and muscle react to different frequencies in different ways and this is how Skulpt is able to accurately measure both.

The basic premise is that the more fat there is under your skin and within your muscles, the greater resistance is needed for the electrical current to
pass through.

The Skulpt Aim can be used by up to six users.  Each of these users can take their measurements and sync these with their own app.  If you have more than six friends who would like to know their muscle quality and body fat percentage, you can let them use the device’s guest profile.

Guests can use the Skulpt Aim to measure muscle quality, but their readings are not tracked.

Furthermore, the Skulpt Aim gets updated from time to time.  These updates are free and will give you new features.  The Skulpt Aim is also water-resistant, making it safe from sweat and water splashes.

Lastly, you would really like the customized diet and workout plans.  These are based on your latest measurements, so expect it to change when your muscle quality is improved and your body fat is reduced.

The workout and diet plans help you achieve your fitness goals faster and allow you to reach peak performance.  No more wasted efforts!

What could be better

Skulpt Aim uses electrical charges to measure your body fat and muscle quality.  If you are using a pacemaker or other electrical implants, you should not use Skulpt.  It is also not recommended for pregnant women.

As for its accuracy, it may be difficult to check whether Skulpt gives you accurate measurements or not.  Readings on the same part taken at different times will yield different results, but that may be explained by the fact that our body changes during and after exercise and even while at rest.

Skulpt Aim uses NiMH batteries, which have a shorter running time and lifespan than lithium ion batteries.  Plus, if you encounter problems with the battery, you cannot change it on your own unless you void the warranty.

The biggest downside to the Skulpt Aim is not really product-related. When it first came out, this device had a suggested retail price of $200.  Skulpt has since released the Skulpt Chisel and the Skulpt Scanner.

The Skulpt Scanner is available on the manufacturer’s website for only $99 (For the latest prices and discounts, check here).  The Skulpt Aim is not yet available on the manufacturer’s site or on Amazon.

Final recommendations about the Skulpt Aim

The Skulpt Aim is a pretty unique device that does not have too much competition.  If you are not sold on the Skulpt Aim, you can consider another Skulpt device: the Skulpt Scanner.  The Skulpt Scanner works similarly to the Skulpt Aim, but it has a lithium-ion battery on board.

Body builders, athletes, and those who are serious about weight loss and fitness would love how Skulpt Aim can make workout more efficient.

On top of having a good idea about your muscle quality and your body fat percentage, you can get customized suggestions on what exercises to perform and what food to eat.

You do not have to work out harder because you can still see improvements in your muscle strength and decrease in body fat.

Skulpt is an important device even when it is focused on body fat and muscle health.  Now imagine adding your favorite fitness tracker to the mix and you would definitely have an easier time becoming fitter.
