The Swagtron T8 Review – Does it Live Up to the Hype?

Last updated: December 9, 2021 by Justin Caldwell Leave a Comment

With each passing week, hoverboards are becoming more and more popular. As a result, there are plenty of options from which you can choose if you’re in the market for a hoverboard. These include devices that have plenty of features which combine convenience, ease of use, and comfort into one high-quality, ultra-modern product.

Even though these devices have been around for nearly half a decade, they didn’t start rising in popularity until more recently. This was primarily due to a lack of market along with a few safety issues that gave consumers concerns. The driving factor behind this was reports that many hoverboards were catching fire and exploding.

However, once more regulations and security features were put into place by manufacturers, demand for the devices experienced a sudden surge. As you’ll see with the Swagtron T8, most hoverboards available on the market today are UL 2272 certified and tested. That means they pass all regulations and safety requirements put in place. As a result, hoverboards are safer for riders to use.

One of the more well-known hoverboard manufacturers is Swagtron, and one of the more popular devices is the Swagtron T8. Whether you just want to goof around on a hoverboard or use it as a means of transportation, the Swagtron T8 is a solid option.

Let’s take a closer look at this hoverboard and discover what it really has to offer.

Stable and Balanced Ride

Whether you’re just getting started with your new hoverboard or you’re a pro rider, the SwagTron T8 offers a self-balancing feature that makes it easy to start riding. When you turn the device on for the first time, its self-balancing feature immediately kicks in.

The SwagTron T8 will stabilize, and auto-balance, which means those new to using a hoverboard will have a pleasant first-time experience. Additionally, the Swagtron T8 has a raised footpad that makes riding easier, along with non-slip footpads which give riders extra balance and grip when needed.

Users won’t have to worry about their safety when riding as the Swagtron T8 utilizes a lead-acid battery. Previous hoverboards used lithium-ion, which is why many caught fire or exploded during use. New lead-acid batteries include self-discharging functionality. This makes for a robust and reliable hoverboard that won’t overcharge.

Safety

When compared with other self-balancing scooters in the industry, you’ll discover that the SwagTron T8 offers more safety benefits. This means riders are getting a safer and more secure ride than they would with other hoverboards. The device is UL 2272 certified and has passed testing with flying colors.

It is safe from an electrical and battery perspective, which means users don’t have to worry about sudden explosions or fires. Swagtron also provides a multi-layered SentryShield for additional protection and safety with all its hoverboards.

Performance

The Swagtron T8 has two-200W motors in each of its wheels, which makes the hoverboard robust and sturdy. With these strong motors and the six-inch rubber tires, your Swagtron T8 can make your way up inclines of nearly 30 degrees with little effort.

Additionally, the Swagtron T8 comes enclosed in a steel metal casing, which means it can withstand a lot of wear and tear. It has the ability to carry up to 200 pounds, which makes it one of the more durable and long-lasting hoverboards on the market today.

Battery Life

Of course, you want a hoverboard that will give you plenty of time to enjoy it. With the Swagtron T8, you’ll get a lithium-free battery which will charge in a little under six hours. That means you’ll probably want to plug it in every night so it can recharge. However, you’ll get nearly six miles of range out of a single charge, so you’ll definitely get plenty of enjoyment before it needs to be plugged back in.

Features

You’ll get plenty of features with the Swagtron T8. This hoverboard uses modern technologies and provides a reliable and remarkable device for its customers.

Balancing

The Swagtron T8’s balancing feature gives riders the stability they need as they step onto and off of their hoverboard. This feature makes the Swagtron T8 an excellent gift for children or for those who are new to self-balancing scooters.

Testing and Certification

The Swagtron T8 has gone through rigorous testing and successfully completed the UL 2272 certification. This means you’re getting a very safe and reliable hoverboard. Additionally, the device has passed all tests in regards to safety and electrical circuitry. These tests confirm that the Swagtron T8 meets all the UL stands are requirements, which means you’ll know you’re safe while riding it.

Lead-acid Battery

Many of the problems associated with hoverboards occurred with lithium batteries. Therefore, Swagtron has taken the necessary steps and only includes lead-acid batteries with their hoverboards. Thus, any safety issues that happened with lithium batteries are completely eliminated.

IPX4 Certification

Since the Swagtron T8 has its IPX4 certification, you can fly through those puddles without missing a beat. It also means your device can withstand water splashes and light rain. However, bear in mind that the Swagtron T8 is not completely waterproof, so you cannot immerse it completely in water. Additionally, it’s probably not wise to operate the hoverboard in heavy rain.

Dual 200W Motors

The Swagtron T8 also has two 200W motors which power each wheel. This means your hoverboard is sturdy, reliable, and robust. Now, whether you want to cruise along on flat roads or climb up inclines, you have a hoverboard that can meet your expectations.

Speed

If you prefer to go fast and find adventure, then the Swagtron T8 might not be the right hoverboard for you. However, if you’re a novice, or you’re getting the device as a gift for your child, then this might be the ideal self-balancing scooter for you.

Compared to other hoverboards, the Swagtron T8’s seven mph top speed is pretty slow. Keep in mind though that even seven mph on a hoverboard looks pretty fast. Still, if you’re a beginner or looking for a hoverboard that is perfect for your little one, consider the Swagtron T8.

Pros and Cons

There is no perfect hoverboard on the market. As a result, it’s essential that you have all the information you need to make an informed purchasing decision. Here are some of the more common pros and cons you’ll experience with the Swagtron T8:

Pros

  • Not too heavy, weighing in at 24 pounds
  • Zero emissions and eco-friendly hoverboard
  • Rides on any surface with ease with hard rubber tires
  • Motorized wheels make it perfect for flat and inclined roads
  • Includes Swagtron’s SentryShield technology which provides additional fire safety and protection
  • Easy to carry when you’re not using it
  • Measures 24.5” x 6” x 6” which makes it portable
  • Strong and durable thanks to its strong steel casing
  • Meets all UL 2272 certification requirements and regulations
  • Rated for IPX4 certification so can withstand light rain and splashes
  • Lead acid battery means hoverboard is not likely to spontaneously catch fire or explode as was the case with lithium batteries

Cons

  • Not a good device if you weigh more than 200 pounds
  • Charging time takes almost six hours while the average market charging time is around 2-3 hours
  • Doesn’t have quite the range that other Swagtron hoverboards have. While it does give you almost six miles per charge, other models in the Swagtron family can go 10-12 miles on one charge.
  • Max speed of only seven mph

Conclusion

As you can see, the Swagtron T8 is a solid hoverboard and is a good option for someone just starting out in the world of self-balancing scooters. This device has a solid design and a robust build, so someone new to hoverboards will have a pleasant experience.

It’s easy to understand why the Swagtron T8 is one of the company’s most popular hoverboards. It made the change to a lead-acid battery, has an IPX4 rating, and doesn’t go too fast. This device is perfect for beginners and children as it has a safe design. Additionally, its auto-balancing feature makes it easy to get on and off.

The device does have its share of drawbacks as well. It doesn’t go very fast, it has a longer charging time than other hoverboards on the market, and it won’t support anyone over 200 pounds. Of course, you’re also not going to get the fancy features that other hoverboards have like Bluetooth speakers or a mobile app.

Overall, the Swagtron T8 is a great device for novice riders. If you can deal with not having all the bells and whistles that newer hoverboards come with, then the Swagtron T8 is a solid investment and definitely worth taking for a spin.
